Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight year.
The 27-year-old captured four titles – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Season of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the entire year as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and picked up a record £11m in prize money.
She received nearly 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
