Specialists Identify Kremlin Fear Operation Targeting Tomahawk Use

Russian authorities is implementing a psychological influence initiative of threats to prevent the United States from providing Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, based on analysis from defense experts. A senior legislator stated: “We are familiar with these missiles completely, their flight patterns, methods to intercept them, we encountered them in Middle East operations, so this is not innovative. Those delivering them and those who use them will have problems … We will identify methods to target those who cause us trouble.”

Ukraine's Defensive Operations Situation

Ukrainian forces were inflicting heavy losses in a strategic push in eastern Ukraine, the war's main theatre, Ukraine's leader stated on midweek. Kyiv's report, following a report by his chief of defense, contrasted with the Russian president's address to senior Russian officers a day earlier in which he asserted Moscow's forces maintained the operational control in all frontline sectors.

Based on evaluation dated the beginning of October, defense researchers said Russia was suffering significant losses, especially due to Ukrainian drone attacks, in exchange for minor territorial gains. Kyiv's troops, the president stated, were “protecting our positions along various sectors”, highlighting especially Kupiansk, a heavily damaged city in north-eastern Ukraine under heavy Russian assaults for an extended period.

Area Situations

The regional governor in Ukraine's southern region of the Kherson oblast said offensive operations on midweek killed three people in and around the urban center of Kherson city. Local authorities of the Sumy oblast, on the border area with the Russian Federation, said three people died in unmanned aerial strikes in various areas. Ukraine's air force said it neutralized or disrupted 154 out of 183 attack and decoy UAVs during the night.

An offensive strike significantly harmed one of Ukraine's thermal power plants, authorities said on midweek. Two employees were wounded in the assault, according to industry sources. They provided no further information, including the plant's location, but national sources said attacks targeted power facilities in Ukraine's northern Chernihiv, southern Kherson and south-eastern Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Humanitarian Effects

In the north-eastern Sumy town of the Shostka area, hit hard by the offensive operations against the energy infrastructure, authorities have put up tents where civilians are able to find shelter, access hot drinks, maintain communication capability and obtain emotional assistance, according to local official.

Global Response

Kyiv's representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on Wednesday urged European allies to accelerate procurement of US weapons for Ukraine. “It's not that we favor American weapons instead of European or some other European weapons – the reality is that we are requesting the US for equipment that European countries don't possess,” said Ukraine's NATO envoy.

Federal law enforcement will immediately gain permission to neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles, interior minister said on Wednesday, in response to numerous unmanned aircraft incidents believed to be Russian efforts to conduct surveillance and threaten. Presenting proposed legislation, the representative said law enforcement would receive permission “to implement state-of-the-art technical action against unmanned aircraft dangers, including electronic countermeasures, electronic interference, satellite signal blocking, but also with kinetic methods”.

European Protection Concerns

European Commission President said on Wednesday that the European Union should enhance its protective capabilities to deter complex threat operations after air incursions, computer network operations and submarine infrastructure disruption. “This doesn't represent isolated incidents. This represents a coherent and escalating campaign,” the leader said in a address before the EU legislative body. “A couple of events are random chance, but several, many, frequent – this constitutes a deliberate and targeted grey zone campaign against the European Union, and European countries should answer.”

Humanitarian Situation

The Swiss government has prolonged its temporary shelter granted to people fleeing Ukraine to at least early 2027. Temporary protection, which permits refugees to leave the country as well as work in Switzerland, is typically restricted to one year but can be extended. “The decision shows the persistent precarious security situation and continuing offensive operations across significant Ukrainian territory,” said a Swiss government statement. “Despite international peace efforts, a lasting stabilisation that would enable protected homecoming is not expected in the coming years.”
