Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his future after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory of course but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this match so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”
He concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
