New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD shared surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning in the area between MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a baby.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was expected to be an important component of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He signed with Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
