Jurgen Klopp states coming back to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that a future comeback remains an option. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-season tenure featuring Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, currently occupies positions as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
They secured the Premier League in the previous campaign, but many fans holding him in high esteem would embrace the possibility that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with the podcast host: “I said I won't manage another team on English soil. So that means should it be the Reds...yeah. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, so the choice could be mine down the line, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on what circumstances would have to unfold to tempt his return to the dugout, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to interviews multiple times weekly or constant media duties a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, yet sharing a meal with the team talking freely, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games meaning regularly great spirits around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks that won the league in the previous season. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in every contest after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, excellent performer. It’s a really good well-judged squad. No need for concern about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The forward was killed in a vehicle collision with his brother this past summer.
“How do you replace such an individual? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the team environment without him in it. Putting it into words is tough about it. A profound tragedy for his teammates also. Not a single person would cite it to justify results yet it's the reality. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that individually is not easy. Unbearable.”
