Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
